An Honest Moms Journey through Motherhood

New Mommy Mistake: I gave the baby juice!

New Mommy Mistake: I gave the baby juice!

My daughter is now 5 months old. She has grown and transitioned so much since her birth day. Her personality is beginning to blossom and she does not look like the same baby that I held in the hospital. I had to put her on the bottle after an unsuccessful attempt at breastfeeding. A few days before she turned five months, I decided to give my baby juice. I knew that she could not consume a lot. She has to make the transition to foods and  juices very slowly. I decided to go out on a whim this day. What in the world was I really thinking? I gave her 2 ounces of Juicy Juice. She went through the bottle very quickly. All I could think was, “Wow, I guess pooh likes It”. Big mistake…

I did not know that I was supposed to dilute the juice.  I found that out a few hours later after I told my aunt that I gave her juice for the first time.  After I found out that I was supposed to dilute her juice, I got nervous. One thing that I can say about my child is that she is a very happy baby. She is always smiling and laughing, even when she isn’t feeling well.  I made sure I didn’t alarm myself. I just watched her closely that night…

When I tell you… “BOO-BOO” isn’t even a good enough  word to describe what I had heading my way.  My daughter boo-boo’d for almost two weeks straight. The color and consistency of her bowel movement had change (which was to be expected). To be honest, I feel like my daughter wasn’t having enough bowel movements every week. The juice worked overtime. Seeing that she clearly was happy and in no pain of any sort, I thanked God that she was fine.  Mommyhood is a constant learning experience.
